Tornados, droughts, personal losses for band members and friends... and yet, the music remains! Through everything, the music remains the thing that still fills our sails with wind and makes the sailing worth the trip. Each of you are a part or portion of that trip, and the Intercoastal Pirates want you to know that we enjoy having you along on the journey!

May I say now that fewer ports seem to exist these days and the ship stays at sea more than we'd like at times. We want to pass along our encouragement to strongly support the establishments at which we play... live music is audible culture and we owe support to those who grant a place for it to live on! Get out there and enjoy yourself (responsibly, of course!!).

We've got quite a few private affairs on the agenda, but want to invite you and yours to come spend a special night with us welcoming in 2012!! We'll be at the Lake Jackson Civic Center, and you can either just join us for the fun and dancing, or even make a night of it with a full meal to make the night complete. Contact the LJ Civic Center office for tickets! There will also be a DJ, and several special guest performances on the stage through the night. We know you'll enjoy it. We are really looking forward to it!

Merry, Merry Christmas to each of you from all of us. May all of the best things in life find you in 2012!

No really, I am not dead or in prison...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 315px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jKSMYU5VOhI/ThsU18aXcfI/AAAAAAAAAJA/Dn9lx47lTpc/s320/VP21A3%2B-%2BPirate%2BShip.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5628115076311904754" />
Ok, I grant that it's been a long time, but...

There are times when pirating isn't the most time-consistent lifestyle! After months out on the high seas, having braved some pretty rough waters while making a few ports here and there, the blog-master has returned to the keyboard and is ready to update ye olde blog, hopefully to remain so into the future. That's as close as we shall sail to anything resembling an apology!

The band has been busy, with the ship's sails billowing from port to port. Some of the recent stops have been with old friends at Moody Gardens for the annual "Bands on the Sand" event, spending the Forth of July weekend rocking Castaway's at Surfside Beach, sharing in several blissful weddings, a few company parties, and the odd reunion or two. Many events coming up, so make sure to stay tuned for dates and times.

One regular stop for the last three years has been the Great Texas Mosquito Festival in Clute. Each year has been great, playing with such fun folks as Brandon Rhyder, Kevin Fowler, Mickey and the Motorcars, and many more. This year should be a show stopper with headliner Pat Green! A night not to be missed, for certain!

Newest pirate Bryan Armstrong is now firmly settled into his place amidships, and we have been adding new songs nearly every date. A few new songs introduced this past weekend at Dido's were greeted with loud approval by the crowd, always a good sign.

We're always glad to have you along for any portion of the voyage, so hop onboard at the next port and spend a little time with the boys. You won't regret it!

New mug shots for the "Wanted" posters...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QcXcqV4kr_4/TYNZafziycI/AAAAAAAAAI0/GdTYdybHUts/s320/172478_10150110566287549_81931682548_6649896_4472545_o.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5585406274618706370" />
Just a quick note from the decks of the Musical Pirate Ship o' The South to let you know we have had our smiling, smirking, and otherwise expression-filled faces immortalized in the fine camera lens of Photography by Joni, for all the world to see. A few samples are at the top of the page, and in this post. Pretty handsome, don't you agree (or would ye prefer a bit of cutlass in the ribs)?

Joni was a lot of fun, and methinks she found the crew to be a good-natured bunch of lens targets. Assisted by band buddy and Captain's Wench Leta (Chris's better looking half), the band moved around, rearranged, posed and pouted for the camera until Joni felt we had what was needed. After Miss J applied the magic touch in the processing room, here we are! The band is quite happy with the results, and sends a huge Thank You to Joni for all her hard work, expertise, and especially for her creative mind and eye. If you find yourself in need of some photographic immortalization for your crew, look up Photography by Joni on Facebook or locally. You'll be glad we told you about her!

In a musical vein, the band is gearing up for a busy spring and summer. Most weekends are already booked up, with June being the only month where it looks like we'll be scrubbing the decks and repairing battle damage... but that's bound to change! It's the kind of busy we don't mind. Pirates need to be Pirating! Hope to pillage YOUR village soon!

For those musical types following the blog, we invite you to come aboard and check out the new techno-gear we've integrated into the show. MyMix individual stage monitor controls fed by a network hub, wireless in-ear monitoring for those running about the stage, guitar amplification courtesy of the fine folks at Fractal Audio for the Lieutenant. Yes, it's true... Rick onstage WITHOUT tubes and speaker cabinets! And happy with it, to boot. Unheard of... And the rumor mill has it that part time Pirate Les Roberts has also taken the plunge, via Avid/Digidesign's Eleven Rack. You can see him at the Shooters show. We've gone high-tech on these decks, so watch out! We're having fun with it, so come take a peek and let us know what you think of it all!

We're baaaaacccckkkkk

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5RzdSFp00l8/TWMU1vJ6T0I/AAAAAAAAAIU/kavCbj7o9ps/s320/3362.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576323677038464834" />
I must apologize for the lengthy time between posts, but pirating is prone to those sorts of times out of port. Now that we are back on the high seas of music with a full crew and the ship's sails full to bursting, things are beginning to ramp up to a spring and summer full of fun!

The band had a great time at the beach Saturday with the fine folks at Castaways Bar and Grill. Adding friends from as far away as Chicago on this visit, the band was in fine form and had a great time. Recently joining the crew to split sound duties with Jimmy, Jason Rooks (Of R&R Studios in Brazoria) added his golden touch to the PA, much to the crowd's delight and appreciation.

Future weeks have us going to Brazoria for a long-overdue return to Cooter Brown's Country Club. It's a fun place with great people, and a nice dance floor to keep you stepping. The band would love to see you there! Many private parties, class reunions, concerts in LJ, Clute, and Galveston, and much more is on tap for 2011. It should be a memorable "Year of the Rabbit!"

Welcome 2011

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/TR9ojU9k1SI/AAAAAAAAAII/CYFPBqo6zEY/s320/DSC06864.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5557275421330167074" /> HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

The Intercoastal Pirates welcomed in a new friend, 2011, with family and many old friends at the Lake Jackson Civic Center New Year's Party hosted by Danny Lara and family. We're looking forward to seeing all of you during the year and making some new memories for the new year aboard the musical Pirate Ship O' The South!

We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 275px; height: 184px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/TQbKvTHooeI/AAAAAAAAAH8/DdG713bvD8o/s320/Pirate%2BBand.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5550346504715674082" />

The Intercoastal Pirates are coming to the close of another great year, and the guys would like to wish a very Merry Christmas to all of the family, friends, fans, club owners, event coordinators, and other wonderful partners who make this adventure so enjoyable for us. One look at some of the guests of the female persuasion will tell you why the gala is so well attended by their male counterparts! Lovely nite to be a Pirate...

The auctions, both silent and not-so-silent, were well supported. Food provided by the fine folks at On The River was outstanding, as were the decorations and table settings!

The band had a great time, delving into many ICP favorites, and a few we decided to wing on the request of a raucous crowd. And a special rendition of "Satisfaction" got the crowd into a loud mood, with some stellar singalong and air guitar moments seen amongst the dancers!

A well conceived and executed event, and one enjoyed again by band and patrons alike. So, till next year...

And on the horizon?

The week of December 6-12 will be a busy one! December 9th will see us in Surfside Beach (and you know how a Pirate and the beach go together!) for a private Christmas party, Friday December 10th will see us traveling up the San Bernard River for a final night at Dido's for 2010 (open to the public, so come on out!!!!!), and Saturday December 11th will see us in Angleton at the KC Hall for another multifamily Christmas event!

And don't forget... New Year's Eve at the Lake Jackson Civic Center! Food provided by La Casona, it will be a BYOB event with setups available, security provided, and a DJ to fill in the dancing gaps between ICP sets. This is the perfect event to have a great night dancing and visiting with friends in a safe environment free from the knuckleheads you may have to deal with elsewhere (apart from the band, anyway). Come to a party you will actually ENJOY! Tickets available at the Civic Center, $60 per person, food and entertainment included. See you there!

And the winner is...

Finally!

With the exit of Pirate-for-Life Stuart Herbst from the decks of the musical Pirate Ship o' The South came the search for a suitable person to fill the drummer's throne. Of course, it takes the proper mixture of musicianship and mayhem to make a living amongst this group of sea dogs. So, not just any old stick man is going to quite fill the bill.

We've had the pleasure of making music with a few drummers of late, and all have been fine musicians. Several would make fine band mates, to boot. But we were fortunate enough to have a long time friend come available during our search, and have invited him aboard the ship full time, as your newest Intercoastal Pirate! (Drum roll please...)

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/TPauKE0bBEI/AAAAAAAAAHs/81AXD2ICWeE/s320/DSC06469.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545811479268885570" />
Bryan Armstrong, who has plied the musical waters of Brazoria County for 20-odd years now will be the time keeper, skin beater, and general tempo guru from here on out! Most recently, Bryan was the drummer for The Keepers, a great band and great bunch of guys. Several of the Keepers, including Jim Clark and Marvin Plander, have played with the Pirates on occasion. Bryan also played with ICP's Rick Park and Ronnie Churchill in Painted Desert in the early to mid 1990s, so he comes to the band with longstanding friendships already established! Bryan released a solo CD, as well as one with The Keepers, during his many years playing in this area. He's a solid player, a great guy, and he's single! So you ladies can come chase him down.

Bryan will be with us on November 13th at Dido's in Brazoria. Come on out and welcome him to the band! He's looking forward to meeting all the Pirate fans!

The end of an era...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 125px; height: 156px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/TMT6jdz4BoI/AAAAAAAAAHc/FoMs2LGvLw0/s320/Stu.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5531821729522386562" />
Have you ever had a such a great time doing something that, when it was over, you were both exhilerated by the experience and sad it was behind you at the same time?

Such is the case with this post. A longtime and founding member of the Intercoastal Pirates, Stuart Herbst, is taking his leave of the ship to attend to more important matters on land, with his many friends, family, and business associates. Anyone who has sailed the waters of the weekdays working/weekends playing musician can attest to the fact of how difficult it can be to manage all of the things you love, and give them all their due attention. Stu has been a seaworthy companion and friend these many years, and we wish him nothing but success in whatever he puts his hand to in the coming months and years.

Proper respect dictates credit being given where it is due, and Stu has quite a bit of credit due to him. As mentioned earlier, Stu was here from the beginning, even taking significant credit for naming the band. And while some still say "What??" when they hear the name for the first time, they certainly remember it once they have it down! Stuart is one of the two remaining members from the group Backlash, the band that eventually became the Intercoastal Pirates, leaving Chris Faulk as the only member here from the dawn of time. :)

Stu has been in the music, and later the business, scene of Brazoria and surrounding counties since the 1970s, and has contributed to many area bands. He brought his expertise and hard-charging style to ICP, helping to forge a sound that became one of the most popular in the county. You can bet Stu will not disappear from the music scene, and already has some work going in the recording and film industries (we don't want to steal his thunder on that, so we will leave the rest of the story to him!). You'll be hearing from him again, maybe in some surprising ways!

The Intercoastal Pirates wish Stuart and his family the best and brightest of futures, and express heartfelt thanks for years of dedicated contribution. Play on, Thunder!

Of course, you don't replace a family member. We'll just add another seat at the pirate table for the person who will shoulder the drumming chores from here on out. As soon as it comes to pass, we'll be sure to introduce you to the newest Pirate!

Never fear, Powder Monkeys, we wouldn't bring home anyone you wouldn't be afraid of...

Drunker than...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/TLJNpFIqG8I/AAAAAAAAAHU/-zr9hQ_gVaw/s320/CB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5526565060885486530" />
Cooter Brown! We've heard it for years. And if anyone is sampling the rum or grog, we want to know where it may be happening. Figuring to find an answer to the query of just how drunk Cooter Brown might be, the Pirates were off to Brazoria for a first hand look at Cooter Brown's Country Club!

Well, Cooter was well behaved, and he has quite a nice club, to boot! A wide open dance floor, lots of fun loving patrons, a very capable wait staff, and the one thing bound to impress any of the many female fans... clean restrooms! Now, if you've been a'pillaging for very long, you know just how rare that can be. Hats off to the crew at Cooter's. We hope to visit you again real soon.

Having answered the age old question of Cooter Brown's sobriety level, we move on to other waters and places in need of a good pirating. We will be pointing the ship up-river to Dido's this Saturday. Always a great place to play, it will be all the better this time with the cooler temperatures outside. We're looking forward to it, and strongly suggest you reserve a table if you're planning on bringing a group. Good food, good friends, a beautiful location... come and make a few memories with the band!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!! The band has been selling a special sort of raffle ticket. The winner of the drawing will get the Intercoastal Pirates, playing at their event! That's right, we raffled US! Why would we do such a thing? It is our part in the fight against breast cancer. The band has been personally touched by the impacts of breast cancer, and are committed to do our part in supporting research for treatment and a cure! We send a very sincere thank you out to all who have purchased tickets for this event, you are doing more good than you know. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fund breast cancer treatment research. The drawing will be at Dido's, so come out and see who the lucky pillagee-to-be shall be!

The following week will find us even further inland, at the Armadillo Ballroom in Brazoria. For those who may not know, The 'Dillo is a southeast Texas institution. Many bands and artists of renown have played there and it has been a musical center for live acts most of our lives so we are looking forward to visiting their shores. Making it all the more special is that it is a sort of reunion of Columbia school students... no specific year, it it's your Alma Mater then you are who they're looking for!

Many more ports to be visited through the year, and we are already booking into 2011. We hope to see you soon!

Fun into the Fall

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/TKDj1MxGB1I/AAAAAAAAAHM/sRfQXmYCPpg/s320/steve_the_guitarist2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521663646255941458" />
Well, we were thinking the Fall of 2010 might be a little bit slower, but the scheduled stops for the Mighty Ship of Music will be bringing the Intercoastal Pirates to many a port over these next months!

We'll be making a few more visits to one of our favored places, Dido's, over the next few months. School reunions are on tap, notably the West Columbia Schools reunion for ALL past students that will be taking place at the Armadillo Ballroom next month. We are proud to have been invited to entertain at the Grand Opening for Amber Lane Boutique in West Columbia. This will actually be TWO clothing stores, one for women and one for men. Come on out to meet Holly and Bill Thompson, eat some BBQ and buy yourself some new duds! We'll have several private parties and weddings to pillage, and then (believe it or not) there are already several Christmas parties on the horizon before closing the year with a special public party at the Lake Jackson Civic Center. See the "Ports of Call" on the front page for dates and times. Looks to be a busy Fall for the boys, and they are looking forward to seeing everyone out and enjoying the music.

Bryan Armstrong, drummer and vocalist for The Keepers joined the band for a night at Dido's while Stu was busy with a previous commitment. The band enjoyed a cooler night than we've seen of late, and another full house at Dido's. Thanks to Bryan for filling in. Of late, your favorite pirating pillagers have been making the rounds of local parties and other events, enjoying some great times, making new friends, playing some new tunes, and then filling our sails with wind to move to the next fun experience with our great fans. A great summer so far, and we are feeling especially blessed that most of the tropical activity hasn't made our sailing difficult. Keep those storms over the remote Atlantic waters, thank you very much!

The Pirates have a little breathing room in the month of September, which is much needed to tend to the ship we call home and make certain we give the proper attention to those who keep our home ship sailing smoothly. Also during this time, we'll be adding to the ever expanding song list to add to your experience when next you join us!

We want to make sure you know where to find us, wherever the ship might sail. In addition to this continuing chronicle, you can keep up with us at:

www.intercoastalpirates.com
www.facebook.com/intercoastalpirates
www.myspace.com/intercoastalpirates

This will help you find us on your computer, Blackberry, Iphone, or whatever your favorite device might be. Coming in on Saturday night with Casey Donahew and Stoney LaRue, the night was hot, the crowd loud, and the music filled the night. GTMF mascot Willie Manchew and the Skeeter Fest crew were, as always, great to the band. The boys were all quite happily surprised by a glowing article on the event, written by Sherry Jane Cooke for the Houston Country Music Examiner... Thanks, Sherry!

Sherry's Article

It wasn't too long ago that the mighty musical Pirate ship sailed into the old port of Galveston to spend an evening with the Beach Boys, doing what we could to get the historic seaport city back on its feet following Hurricane Ike. That was a great night, and left us with many memories of beautiful weather, great fans, wonderful music, in a nearly perfect environment at Moody Gardens.

Now pretty much back to all its former glory (or at least without boats sitting in yards and on top of cars!) the return to Galveston was a long awaited night. The event was Bands on the Sand at our favorite Galveston locale... Moody Gardens. We disembarked in the midst of a sweltering hot Texas afternoon, and met with the crew from Sound on Sound to get prepared. The Moody Gardens folks were out, and cordial as ever, keeping band, crews, and event staff rolling in the right direction. A joy to work with, as always.

Frank Billingsly from Channel 2 News in Houston was on hand to cover the show. Captain Chris got a little camera time while the band bopped along behind him and Frank (looking dapper in his new multi-color tie dye Intercoastal Pirates t-shirt!). The Channel 2 News crew was top notch, and treated the Pirates to several prime time spots on the evening news. Thanks to Frank and the crew for coming out... you guys are welcome any time.

The next night had us sailing back into the home port of Lake Jackson to party with the B'wood Class of 75 at the Civic Center. It was a pure joy to play in temperatures that weren't near triple digits, and the food and drink provided a great start to a fun night. The Boys were in fine form, and kept the dance floor hopping through the evening. We can testify... the Class of Seventy-Five is still alive!

August 21st will have us back to a most favored port along the San Bernard River: Dido's!!! We always have a great time there, and this date(at this moment anyway) is our last scheduled appearance there in 2010. PLEASE make your reservations to come party with the Pirates early... it's always a full house when we visit Jeff and the crew. Great food, lots of drink, pretty girls, and wall to wall music! What could be better for a slew of Pirating note-smiths?

The big ship rolled up the (finally) receding waters of the ol' San Bernard river to a one of our most favored ports, Dido's, to spend a night reveling with the river folk Saturday night. The place was filling even before the band was set up, and was full by the first notes sounded. A great crowd, loud and partying the night away, joined the band in song after song on the dance floor. A great night.

The band hosted several birthdays, several anniversaries, and a shipload of old friends reuniting throughout the night. One set of friends that have not seen one another in 53 years actually got together to catch up on all the happenings since they last shared a high school hallway. The boys in the band just love friends and family, so these kind of happenings are always among the most enjoyable moments in Pirating! Keep up with the Ports of Call listed to the left... there are more reunions to be pillaged throughout 2010.

Now that the whole band is back together (reunited, if you will), we find ourselves thankful to be sailing the waters of the United States of America in this week following our Independence Day. A HUGE thank you to all who have served, who serve now, and who will serve in all branches of the United States military, protecting our borders and going far & wide to make sure the stars and stripes stay flying over our collective heads. Just a few more weeks and he will be done with taking care of business out of state and will climb back to his rightful spot opposite the Captain on the musical pirate ship o' the south!

It's been a long three months, mates, awaitin' his return to these decks! Come on out and welcome the first mate back to life at sea!

More dates coming, more updates here too...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 125px; height: 156px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/S7vsQwTiobI/AAAAAAAAAGU/0sS6qJfCi7U/s320/icp-3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457215146078413234" />
As you can tell from the few recent posts, there has been a lot going on getting ready for Rick's absence, Les' arrival, and even some more member news. Former ICP guitarist Rod Foroozan will also be making several appearances during Rick's hiatus, so be sure to come welcome him back into the fold. Rod has been burning up area stages with The Nailers, old friends of the band, so seeing him back on stage with The Pirates (even on loan) is a special treat.

The band schedule is being updated, but in the mean time go to www.myspace.com/intercoastalpirates and get the most updated dates and times.

It's getting warmer, and the busy summer months are a'coming! Great season, lots of private parties and corporate nights for the band, and many things on the horizon for your favorite pillagers.

The boys sailed into a few new ports and even joined in the bliss of marriages celebrated by fans (and friends)of the band. Always the best of times with the best of people.

Just last night, the place to be was in Bay City at the Oscar Night for Junior Service League. Extremely well planned and executed, it was a night fit for the elite stars of the silver screen when Hollywood was really Hollywood. Hosts Erin and Michelle made certain the band was well cared for, with food and drink to spare. It was a great night, with the dance floor full from stem to stern all though the event.

Some changes of interest are on the horizon. Rick Park will be heading off to Quantico, Virginia for some high level training for a few months. Don't worry, he will be back! But while he's gone, his place opposite Captain Chris on the deck will be ably manned by Les Roberts. An old friend of the band, Les has been plying the musical waters of this area for more years than he'd like to admit! A veteran of bands such as Moonchild, and current member of Dogtown Blues, his guitar playing and vocals will be a great addition to the band. Welcome, Les!!

Also, we're hoping to be pointing the ship to different venues in different cities over the next many months. You can bet we will maintain our friendships and appearances you've come to expect, but are looking to give you more choices than ever when it comes to a night of stepping out with the Pirating elite!

See you soon!!!

'Tis the Season!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 288px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/SxvV2ym0pXI/AAAAAAAAAGE/Z8fOpdfW3JY/s320/0511-0812-0117-2214_Pirate_Santa_clipart_image.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5412154514490041714" />
Merry Christmas to all!

Having just inhaled quite a large Thanksgiving dinner, we are reminded of how much we have to be thankful for in the great United States. As much time as we spend sailing from port to port to entertain the fine people we have come to know, and the comradeship of the crew, has made this a great year for your favorite Pirates!

And now, as we enter this season of celebration for the birth of the Savior of mankind, it is important to put aside those things that hamper our fellowship and make a serious effort towards "Peace on Earth," at least inasmuch as we can control our own behavior! Personally, I have secured my cannons, and pledge not to blast anyone amidships, if it can be at all avoided!

Wishing for you scalawags to control yourselves aside, the band has been very busy of late, and will be for the remainder of the year. The ship made port at a frigid Pearland Town Center. The wet, cool weather kept many a land-lubber indoors, but a few brave souls did venture out, and several actually watched from the porches of their apartments facing the pavilion. No matter, though... Pearland Town Center is a great place to go and we always look forward to visiting! And then, continuing the cold pattern, 31 degree temperatures and snow did in a private (and outdoor) pool party in Lake Jackson, but the very next night found the boys spending time with many fine folk in Freeport, supporting the Boys and Girls Club annual gala. We had a great time, wonderfully maintained in food and drink by On The River/River Point catering. The event drew much support, with many generous patrons taking home auction items, providing even more funding for this worthy cause.

We have several Christmas parties coming up, and then will open 2010 at the Brimmage Ranch in Jones Creek. We spent last New Years Eve with Troy, family, and friends and anticipate this will be another great time!

Keep up with us here, on the www.intercoastalpirates.com site, or www.myspace.com/intercoastalpirates and come on out wherever you see us turning the ole' pirate ship to shore. We look forward to seeing you!

All the good news!!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 274px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/St-c0eMEYII/AAAAAAAAAF8/KysxnEcgXts/s320/Saruman.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395203303883956354" />
Ahoy there, mates! As you have been reading, it has been a busy time under sail and I can hardly make time to get here and post the happenings! So, while the Captain is busy and no one is looking, methinks I will update the Powder Monkeys on the happenings of late... I have posted my Evil Wizard to watch my back...

Most recently, the band touched land at the Brazoria County Fair to entertain the crowd on a nice cool Fall evening. After rain has kept the fair to it's perennial mud-hole status, the clouds left just in time for the big ship to roll ashore. A good crowd spent the evening with us, and it was another good year for beer sales. We just love when that happens!

As of today, October 21, Staff Sergeant Dana Butt, daughter of Rick Park, is back on American soil! After a second trip with the US Army to the Persian Gulf she has returned to Texas. The band, and particularly our head guitar-slinger, is incredibly proud of her service to the country and thankful to God for her safe return. She did indeed make it "Home In Time!"

The band has been adding some new music, both original and cover tunes. In the mix are a few songs off the newest Eagles CD "Long Road Out of Eden" and a new Chris Faulk composition called "Backyard." We're also adding a few new country tunes, and will probably be surprising you with a dance tune or two. Stay... uh... tuned. And with the Christmas season coming back, the ever-popular "Please Come Home For Christmas" will be back in rotation.

New fans and friends are joining the band every outing, and we are loving it. One of the biggest joys of coming ashore and making some noise is having our friends, old and new, join in the fun. We are, first and foremost, in this to have a good time and most enjoy life onstage when YOU are having a good time with us. Thanks for all your support!!!

Mosquitos and the Class of '79

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/Snj-19ojYRI/AAAAAAAAAFs/b_PR6fjkEdk/s320/DSC04278.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366319159043121426" />
Avast ye friends of the Pirates! Time for an update on the landfalls and pillages of the big ship!

Once again, the boys made a visit to the Great Texas Mosquito Festival. It was a warm Saturday night when the Intercoastal Pirates rolled into the grounds of Willie Manchew, mascot of the festival. The Josh Ward Band did a great set, extended to keep the crowd happy and ready for the music to come. The Pirates took the stage to a welcoming crowd, and did not disappoint. Even a seriously over-voltaged extension cord attempt to fry the vaunted Road King (a pet in the First Mate's arsenal) could not keep the band from having a great time with the crowd. An hour and a half of sweat drenched and high decibel fun later, the boys bid the crowd farewell, and yeilded the stage to the Randy Rogers Band. The party went on well into the wee hours...

Next on the agenda for the band was a reunion. Not a reunion of the family sort, mind ye, but a reunion of classmates. Nigh on 30 long years ago, these folks spent every weekday (and surely a lot of week nights and weekends) together learning all the things they would need to know later in life. Well, ok... maybe not everything they learned was necessary... but it did form the bonds of friendship that the years do not erode. Every five years since their departure from Brazoswood High School, they have reconvened to catch up and regale each other with the tales of days gone by. You have to love a school with a Pirate as a mascot. A Buccaneer, to be exact. Now thirty years on, they still come by the hundreds to enjoy a night of fun and memories. The band played, entertained a sit-in from former B'Wood band mates, watched some entertaining JibJab videos with the class, and had a great time. Good food, a great crowd, a margarita machine, and lots of beer, made for a really good time for all. We hope to see them again in 2014!

The big ship will roll up the San Bernard River to Dido's again next week, so come on out to join us for a night of fun, food, and friendship near the water's edge. As always, you can keep up with us here or on the band page at www.intercoastalpirates.com or at www.myspace.com/intercoastalpirates for band schedules, updates, and other band happenings. There are some new t-shirt colors available at shows now, and more Pirate gear soon to come.

Join in and enjoy the fun with us!

And we're off...

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 222px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/SqKJXc1UUDI/AAAAAAAAAF0/dy3V31m3ljM/s320/Carvin+CT6+Headstock.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5378011941003612210" />
Ahoy there ye mateys and friends of the Intercoastal Pirates! I finally got a moment away from ship and sail to chronicle the happenings of late, and to announce a few ports we mean to pillage shortly!

Summer is certainly upon us, and with it come all of the summer parties, festivals, and wild weekends. Of course, we partake of such gatherings as often as we can manage. We've been making the stops about town and at private parties the county over, helping folks welcome summer, birthdays, or just welcome the weekend. Making lots of new friends and introducing quite a few folks to the pirating way of having fun. We've been enjoying the good times as well, and are looking forward to a great summer run.

Next up on the agenda is a stop in with our old mates at Dido's. Always a good place to get the finest of meals and kick up your heels once you're full. We'll provide the music, you can show us your most outrageous dance moves!

A private party or two come next, then we'll be returning to the Great Texas Mosquito Festival in Clute, sharing the stage with the Josh Ward Band and Randy Rogers. It will be a great night of music, so don't miss it.

There are lots of other dates on tap, so check back here or take a look at our other web sites:

www.intercoastalpirates.com
www.myspace.com/intercoastalpirates

You can keep up with all of the band's activities... at least those we can make public! This is the time of the year when we start covering lots of water, seeing many ports of call, and making lots of new Pirating friends. That's the best part of what we do... New places, great friends, lots of music, and good times for all.

There are plenty of those good times already on the horizon. The mighty musical ship has been making regular stops around the area, including visits to old friends at Dido's, Angleton Ice House, Castaways, a stop at the Riverfest in Freeport, and quite a few private affairs with the best of people. Coming up, the ship will be rolling into Freeport for the Fishin' Fiesta (sharing a night with our old friends Dog Town Blues), then into Clute for the annual Great Texas Mosquito Festival (with the Josh Ward Band and Randy Rogers), regular stops to see all of our local friends including the Freeport Ice House and plenty of private parties. There is talk of making a return to Moody Gardens in Galveston this year; a reprise of the great time we had last year with the Beach Boys. The show is not a sure thing yet, and bands/dates have yet to be locked down, but we are certainly hopeful of working with those fun folks at Moody again this year. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

On the band front, the song list is expanding and we are looking to add more original tunes to the song list. A very strong support for the song "Home in Time" has made it a regular in the set list. It is our thank you and prayer for the safe return of our US Military personnel following their service to us all. Pirates aren't known to be the most respectful folk, but we tip our hats and bow fully to those who have kept the greatest nation in the history of the world safe and free. We support you all, each and every one!

Busy times have made it a bit hard to break away from the ship's deck and sneak below decks to add to this blog. My apologies for the sparse updates... I'll try to update more often, before I find myself walking a plank with a sharp cutlass point at me back...

Just a shameless plug...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/SeD1u4fk7OI/AAAAAAAAAFU/YiC6Yuuv6Sc/s320/Pirates-final+(3).jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323524945339542754" />
Ahoy ship mates!

The band rolls on, merry as ever and playing at a busy clip. A pirate's life for me, indeed!

The boys have been working on a few more ways to get their smiling faces in front of folks these days, and came upon the idea of adding a band photo to help everyone remember what they look like... for those times when a mug shot just won't do.

Photo credit goes to several folks, so forgive me for not knowing from whence Stu's photo may have originated... but the remainder of them are the handy work of Paul Ladd of the fine firm Ladd Company Photography. Paul met up with the band in Galveston at the Beach Boys show last November, and took a few photos while the Pirates were wooing the crowd. We liked them so much we decided to use them for some shameless advertising! You've seen Paul's work in these pages before, and he is the man to see if you have some lens work that needs doing!

The arrangement of the photo was compliments of the Captain's wife and friends. We think they did a whale of a job.

Let us know what you think of the new photo. We like it, but you might say we're a tad biased on the subject.

And where could I find a Pirate in the next few months???

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/ScQZBcZnQYI/AAAAAAAAAFM/BDwj5RKKBBk/s320/Ronnie-Chris+sunset.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315400972798214530" />
So, let's say you happened to be looking to have a good time with a band of Pirates through the spring of 2009... where should you go? Well, you're in luck... the boys are going to be making landfall quite a few times in the next 6 or 8 weeks. Of course, you can always find out where the next planned pillage-fest will be by returning to these very pages...

The Intercoastal Pirates have regular stops planned with old friends at the Angleton Ice House and Castaways several times throughout the spring and summer. Lots of partying folks at both places, so jump in with both feet. Then, April 4th brings the long-awaited return to Dido's... this is a beautiful place with great food, run by great folks. It's always a good time there. Also, the band is returning to Columbia Lakes after many years absence, and they're looking forward to that.

One special night the crew wants everyone to mark on the calendar is April 24th, which will mark the return of the Pirates to the Lake Jackson Spring Concert Series on the Plaza. This takes place outside on the beautiful plaza area of the Lake Jackson Civic Center, and is free to the public. Bring your lawn chairs and drinks (no glass containers, please!)and have a good time with us! Time will be from about 6-9 pm, or thereabouts.

Another event to look forward to in Brazoria County is Clute's Great Texas Mosquito Festival. This is actually an internationally known festival that is always a fun event with lots of entertainment. We are in the process of locking down the details, but expect to see the Intercoastal Pirates rockin' the stage sometime Saturday night... details will be forthcoming! There is everything from games to food to music at this festival, and the whole family can find something fun to do. It's an annual must-attend for us. Clute will have some other events going on earlier in May, including the Go-Clute Car and Bike Show, which will also feature the music of the Intercoastal Pirates.

There are many more things to come, and this looks to be the year of the Pirate! Brush up on your Pirate lingo, grab the lad or wench of your choice, and come out to meet the boys as they weave their musical magic. We do love good company!

(Photo Credit: Ladd Company Photography 2008)

New happenings, and we continue sailing along

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 315px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/Sb2nTMNyUgI/AAAAAAAAAFE/N5Jz1almVaA/s320/DSC02993.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313587083505455618" />
A hearty yo ho to ye, mateys. Things have been busy as ever aboard the Intercoastal Pirates ship as we prepare to sail into the busy warmer months of the year. Be sure you keep up with the schedule here for upcoming dates, or check out the MySpace page at www.myspace.com/intercoastalpirates for the whole year at a glance. This is especially good for you folks who might want to schedule a Pirate visit to your own event!

We've played a few places around the county recently, added a new song or three, and have been relishing the odd weekend of leisure here and there. We've enjoyed getting to spend a bit of time visiting with old friends who have been so good as to regularly come out to see us, and have been making new friends wherever we have gone. That's one advantage of sailing around like Pirates are known to do... new faces in every port!

Stay tuned at this very location for new posts. There are several higher profile Pirate visits on deck, and we'll let you know just as soon as we have everyone tied up... I mean as soon as the loose ends are tied up. The band is booking at a very steady rate, and already are going to be pointing the ship to shore nigh on weekly to share song, drink, and copious amounts of fun with those stalwart party types who are wild enough to invite a bunch of sea dogs into their lives for a night (or day, on occasion).

We look forward to seeing your face in the crowd at an ICP date soon. Or would ye rather walk the plank???

So, what exactly is a Powder Monkey?

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 236px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/SZ9DZQfApkI/AAAAAAAAAEs/Ag8u2PrkpNQ/s320/Powder+Monkey.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305032987266557506" />
Recently, the fine folks at Blogspot added something we thought might be of some use to those wanting to keep up with the Pirates and their pillaging. Occasionally, we'll find something we really believe in or a certain situation where we just have to turn rudder and haul the ship to shore to help out in our own decibel-heavy way!

Such a case is the Kim Shelton Benefit for One Vision that will be held at Clute Park on March 7th, 2009. As we have all grown older, it is a fact of life that we will see hard times and illness take its toll on friends and family. When difficulty comes to call, he often brings a heavy financial burden with him. Kim and her family have been struggling through these burdens, and could use some friendly support. This benefit will provide some of that financial support, as well as the kind of reinforcement only the hand of a friend can provide.

We hope you'll come out and join us in supporting Kim, her family, and all those who are standing with her throughout this long battle. We have all enjoyed the opportunity to slow down a bit and appreciate those irreplaceable gifts of love and friendship that no amount of money, pillaged or otherwise, can buy. We sincerely thank every one of you for your support and fellowship throughout 2008, and invite you to join us in 2009 for even greater adventure aboard the Black Pearl of the music world!

We'll be playing this very night (Saturday, December 27th) at the Angleton Icehouse, a place everyone in this band has played at one time or another. It's been a long while since we've been there and we're looking forward to rekindling some old friendships.

We'll be playing the New Year in with friends at a private bash in Jones Creek before rejoining old comrades at Castaway's in Surfside Beach on January 3rd. These are people who have been there, done that, done it again, and are back for more... personages of true historical significance.

In the music world, there are only a few of those sorts, and even fewer who still share the same air we do. Chief among that latter group, from an American perspective, are The Beach Boys. Long the most successful band from these shores, the Boys have been about the business of music making since we were in Pirate diapers. We grew up, made good memories, and lived all of our days with that incredible music as an influence, and as a musical soundtrack to our lives. It takes a lot to make a Pirate remove his hat in respect... and our collective hats are off to these musical giants.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/SQ8fu4aXjLI/AAAAAAAAADw/C19OsRZ7aD8/s400/DSC01749.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264461379696823474" />ICP received the call to open the concert for The Beach Boys some weeks back, and were doubly thrilled to be able to share a stage with a legendary band, while also doing our part to bring Galveston (a favorite town of Pirates everywhere) back to its proper glory. And now, finally, the day arrived...

We got to the Moody Gardens Outdoor Amphitheater early, and spent the day moving things about until a suitable arrangement was made for all three bands. The Coastliners, a longtime area favorite, would also share the bill and provide their signature harmonies to the night. Then came show time!!

The band hit the stage, and the crowd of over 7000 music lovers were immediately into the spirit. The cheers were loud, and the night was off to a great start. The Intercoastal Pirates love playing for an appreciative crowd, and the people of Galveston can be justifiably proud of hosting just such a group. ICP music went on for an hour, and the band was rewarded with thunderous applause. The night was, to quote the Captain... "almost surreal"

The Coastliners were next up and played a set of standards from the fifties and sixties, in addition to receiving a round of spirited applause for their rendition of "Proud to be an American." The Pirates and Coastliners set the proper mood for a momentous event... and no one would go home disappointed.

The Beach Boys took the stage, fronted by original members Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. Joined by a stellar band, and bolstered by incredible crowd support, Mike and the crew ran through hit after hit after hit... to the unending delight of their adoring fans. The Intercoastal Pirates remained right next to the stage, taking in an event that would go in the ship's log as a night not to be forgotten.

The Intercoastal Pirates thank The Beach Boys, The Coastliners, Garvin and the staff at Moody Gardens, all of the booking and talent persons, and family and friends of the band for the opportunity to play, and your help and support throughout. It was a blast!

Rick, my boy, I said wear a costume...

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_QUV0OdJlF7A/SQ8UOzbv0JI/AAAAAAAAADo/nN9lkk0qS6Q/s320/DSC01489.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264448733976711314" />
Well, there we were, the Thirty-first day of October, Halloween night! The ship made its way back up the San Bernard River to Dido's, always a favorite retreat for the boys.

Now, the plan was this: The Intercoastal Pirates would break with their normal habit of disguising themselves as local townfolk when they raid the port this time. No "normal" clothes, shaving, or the like on this trip. Just dress up like a fictional character, and go have at it!

So, Captain Faulk decided he would make it a Knight to remember, while it seemed Steve had a bone to pick with the idea. Ronnie got into the spirit, and was running around like a demon getting ready. It is possible Stu did not get the parchment-memo on this one.

Now Rick, faithful lieutenant to the Captain, got the wise idea that the people at Dido's wore normal clothing for their land-lubbing life... so why put on something new? Just wear what he wears on the ship and who would be the wiser? So, with little fanfare and even less hair care, he came ashore as... you guessed it... a Pirate! I am sure he would call it ship-savvy... but it was, at least, efficient!

The crew had a great time, and were even joined onstage by Proprietor Andrew for a song. Some new tunes were tried on the crowd, with a rowsing applause being the result. All in all a good night, and the costumes were put away for another year. No, Rick... put something on...

Good, Good, Good Vibrations

As you can see from the little announcement in the upper left of the page, we have been accorded a mighty honor. One of our longtime favorite seaside towns, Galveston, recently took a hell of a blow from Hurricane Ike. We seafaring types like to stick together, and the Crew hated to see such a lovely port in this condition.

We were contacted by some old friends and offered an opportunity to help in a concert to benefit the fine folks of Galveston. Well, that would have been a mighty YES from captain and crew in its own right, but there was a surprise...

We''ll be opening for the Coastliners and THE BEACH BOYS! That's right... Endless Summer, Little Deuce Coupe, California Girls... that's the ones!

Needless to say, we are looking forward to it. November 1st, at the Moody Gardens Outdoor Amphitheater. We go on at 7 pm. The Coastliners will follow, and the Beach Boys are scheduled for 9 pm. Or "Now I Know How Tina Felt..."

Well, has it been a while since we last shared a pint?

It has indeed!! The band has made many a landing in the time since last we spoke, and then the ship was nearly run aground by a really nasty fellow named Ike. Made a shambles of the home port, but we were finally able to clear dock and unfurl sail. Now we are back out and about like it never happened. Well, almost...

Now there are quite a few things going on for the boys these days. Bass player and vocalist James Harvey has moved on to other interests, and the crew wish him all the best in his pursuits on solid land.

An old hand controlling the lower tones of the ship has returned for another tour of duty. We are all happy to see Ronnie Churchill's familiar face roaming the ship these days. If we don't abuse him too badly he might just stay aboard! We could always nail his boots to the deck...

Otherwise, more opportunities to add to the friend base are a'coming. We'll be at the Brazoria County Fair in a few weeks (October 17th), near all the beer in the aptly names Beergartens (you thought otherwise???). Then we'll be back to see the fine folks at Texas Junction the following week (25th) before going back to team up with Andrew for a night of fun and frolic (in masks, no less) at Dido's in Brazoria for Halloween! Come join us... it's your chance to dress how you really want to without having to explain it!!

There are more ports to explore, and many more friends to be made 'fore year's end. We want to see YOU there when the mighty ship rolls to shore next!

Captain Chris and the crew will be looking for your smiling face...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://intercoastalpirates.blogspot.com/2008/10/long-time-no-post-or-now-i-know-how.html' title='Long time, no post... Be in style at any Pirate gathering! Scream out "Avast, ye bilge sucking rats!" in proper attire. Available for a miserly sum at any Intercoastal Pirates date, so buy several for family and friends!

Well, the hunt was on. You can't play Pirate without proper culinary supply. So, the mighty ship came upon what was said to be a new mall... Pearland Town Center. Set to sing the songs of pirate life, love, and linguini (yes, we sail through all food groups) in the Spark Energy Pavilion, we began to look around this new place. Certainly more than a normal mall. The streets are lined in palm trees, kids are playing in water squirting right up out of the ground, swank housing abounds for those who don't like the feel of an ocean under the bed, and there are stores of every persuasion. A Piratess (sounds like a likely term for a Pirates other half) likes stores... of any persuasion. But how to feed the crew???

Several of the crew's better halves (Piratesses?) went in search of supplies. Darn stores kept getting in the way, but we made the best of having to shop our way through. Finally, we found a place that sounded proper to feed a Pirating crew... Fish City! The place was packed, and for good reason. The food was great, and not priced beyond a working man's wage! Not bad for our first sojourn in these waters. Back in time to feed the boys before show time!

The music and merriment went hand in hand with the soft southern breeze and laid back atmosphere. Some danced, some watched, the aforementioned kids played in the water, and we all had a great time. The band is looking forward to a return to this port later in the year, so keep an eye on our Ports of Call. We'll be back soon!

A night with Willie Manchew

You just never know what manner of man or beast these Pirates will be raising the rafters with...

On July 26th the crew went in search of a landmark. Not exactly a set-in-stone sort of landmark... but still something they knew they would keep a weathered eye open for until they came to the spot of its yearly return. And suddenly, there it was. A mosquito so large it could only come from Texas. You might think the citizens of Clute would run from it, but no. They actually hold a festival in honor of the old boy every single year! His name is Willie Manchew, and he is the official mascot of the Great Texas Mosquito Festival.

As it turns out, Willie's festival is just the sort that the Intercoastal Pirates love. Good times, good people, and insane amounts of food and drink. Thanks to our old friends from Dido's, and new friends, the Smoking Chilis, for great food, along with the Festival Crew for making certain we never ran our of liquid refreshments.

The guys had a great time on stage, and the crowd joined in on nearly every song. The stage was shared with Mickey and the Motorcars and Kevin Fowler. The music was great throughout the night and everyone; bands, fans, and festival folks enjoyed the evening together. We all made new friends, renewed some old acquaintances, and discovered Bud Lime is pretty darned good. After hours of fun, the sails billowed and the Pirates were off, Willie flew to wherever 26 foot tall mosquitoes go in the off-season, and the crowd went home happy.

A well-deserved week off is on the horizon before a brand new port of call will be seen over the bow... Pearland Town Center! Surely to be spoken of in pirating lore for years to come, the boys loaded the ship without intention of returning for rest until making prize of a fishing port, a riverside celebration, and a beachside home for partying castaways in one fell swoop!

Sailing in behind cover provided by the Catfish Mafia, the Pirates stormed the stage at the Freeport Fishin Fiesta... taking no prisoners (but making lots of friends) the boys had their way with a crowd of revelers into the night. It's sure this place will be on the re-pillage list for next year. After hours of music and merriment, the ship slipped off into the night...

The very next night, ready to see familiar faces in familiar places, the ship went up the San Bernard river to dock at Dido's. It was a great day, the 4th day of July, and all were ready to spend time (and a few pieces of eight, to boot!) on wine, women, song, and recognition of the Pirates only true home... THE GREAT UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! There has never been a port made that can match the ol' US of A, and nay, never will be to our eyes! Then, while the the rockets were glaring red... aye, and the bombs were bursting in air... on to port three...

Having been to a place with years of history on day one, then to a place we all love to swash our buckles on day two, it was time to come in under full sail and crash a new port of call. A few blocks off the main thoroughfare in Surfside Beach, within cannonshot of the sandy shore, we found a place with a name begging a good pirating.. Castaways! The swords were flashing (as were other things through the evening, but that's another tail.. I mean tale), and the crowd was won over to the Pirate way of life, love, and laughter. By night's end, the Castaway's were feeling that old Pirate magic, and the boys had made Pirate history.

As you can see, it took a few days below decks to gain the strength back for the telling of this tale. And just in time! The swashbuckling quintet has located one of their own long lost members, and then went and found another body of water they've yet to violate! And you know they can't leave that alone.. so off to Dow's Reservoir to party and play with the company folks.

Do these sea dogs ever rest????

A Blog With No Name…

The big ship docked in Brazoria on Friday the 13th, surely a good day for pirating! A festival it was, with food and drink… aye, and lads and wenches aplenty. Plenty of plunder on the auction block too, and everyone from judges to the constabulary having a time of it. What was it called, ye ask? Well, it doesn’t really have a name… actually, the fact it has no name is its name… or it’s named after not having a name to name itself.

No one move… I dropped my brain…

Of course! It’s the Brazoria No Name Festival. It’s been held for years, and they haven’t found a need to name it yet! The boys were there to keep the fine folk of Brazoria entertained into the wee hours, and had a great time of it, too! While watching them do their swashbuckling, I even recorded a bit of it on my own and posted it for the pirating world to see. The boys have set sail, but will be in three ports in three nights come Independence Day weekend, so be sure to meet them when next ship meets sand!

"The average man will bristle if you say his father was dishonest, but he will brag a little if he discovers that his great-grandfather was a pirate."

Pirates Day Declared at Dido's

It has been a while since my last tale of the adventures of the Pirates, as I had gone inland to visit family. I am back now and wanted to catch everyone up on the Pirates recent activities.

On May 24th the Pirates made port on the San Bernard river to visit the Legendary Dido's. Unbeknownst to the Pirate's Captain and crew, Dido's had declared May 24th "Pirates day" in honor of their visit. All the bar maids and bar lads were dressed as Pirates. Even Captain Chris Faulk of the Pirates was accompanied on his guitar by his faithful side kick Maurice the Parrot. It was a rowdy crowd and crew, and food and drink was plentiful. Arrrgh!

Next Port of Call --- Brazoria No Name Festival June 13.

Land Ho

The Intercoastal Pirates dropped anchor May 2nd at the Lake Jackson Civic Center, to play in the Summer Concert Series. Although foul weather was on the horizon, it didn't keep a large crowd from gathering to meet the boys when they hit land. The Pirates were in fine spirits and had a good time filled with wine, women, and song. They did the songs... the women (and their men) did the dancing! There was wine involved, but that's another story...

The Concert Series is a new concept for the City of Lake Jackson, as they test the waters to see if the idea will float.
